Rally On April 26th To Protect Social Security

On Tuesday, April 26th, the Senate Finance Committee will begin two days of hearings on Social Security.  The hearings will occur as President Bush winds down his unsuccessful 60-day campaign to convince Americans to support his plan to privatize Social Security. The Administration hopes to use the Senate hearings to jump-start the next stage in their drive for privatization. The April 26th rallies, sponsored by Americans United to Protect Social Security in over 25 state, are designed to shot-circuit their plans.

President Bush and his privatization allies in Congress are placing a tremendous amount of importance on the Senate hearings. They hope to regain the public support they have lost in the last two months by showing that their plan has Congressional support. We can deny them their moment in the spotlight by rallying back home and reminding the Senators in Washington that opposition to privatizing Social Security remains strong and deep.
