As recent headlines in such publications as Federal Times and The Washington Post indicate (“Outlook for competitive sourcing dims”, “New laws filled with anti-outsourcing measures”, “Congress Continues to Place Limits on Outsourcing of Government Jobs”), 2005 was a good year, legislatively, for AFGE in its fight against the Administration’s wholesale privatization agenda. In years past, although losing votes in public, the Administration was ultimately able to prevail behind closed doors through heavy-handed veto threats. However, in 2005, instead of just winning votes in committee and on the floor, AFGE and its champions actually prevailed in House-Senate conferences. [more]
