Dear New York Working Families e-Activist,
Here it comes—congressional debate on privatizing Social
Security begins Tuesday, April 26, with a Senate Finance
Committee hearing. Sen. Charles Schumer is a member of that
powerful committee. Please take a moment now to urge him to
attend the hearing, ask the hard questions about how
privatization would hurt people like you and oppose this
attack on America's most important family protection program.

President Bush’s proposal to privatize Social Security
would:
- Slash guaranteed benefits.
- Explode the federal deficit.
- Weaken Social Security’s solvency.
- Open Social Security up to fraud and corruption.
- And make our retirements less secure.
Sen. Schumer can help stop it.
In Washington, D.C., and around the country Tuesday,
activists will be rallying to mark the start of the
congressional hearings on Social Security privatization.
They'll be telling their members of Congress, loud and clear,
to stop privatization in its tracks. As an activist whose
senator sits on the Finance Committee, you can be especially
influential at this crucial time. Please contact Sen. Schumer
now by clicking the following link:

Privatizing Social Security would slash guaranteed benefits
by some 40 percent—even for workers who don't choose private
accounts. For workers who do want privatized accounts, the
government would take back 70 cents in retirement benefits for
every $1 in the account on top of the 40 percent benefit cut.
And after seeing the stock market's performance recently, who
on earth would bet their retirement security on privatized
accounts invested there?
America's retirement security is at stake. Please tell Sen.
Schumer to attend the April 26 Finance Committee hearing, ask
hard questions about what privatizing Social Security would
really do to his constituents and oppose this dangerous
proposal. Once you have sent your message, please click the
following link to urge others in your state to contact the
senator, as well:

Together, we can win the fight to preserve Social Security
and America’s retirement security.
In solidarity,
